haven't been writing in here lately. that thread of my life is more distant at the moment. here is my latest notepad note, to record there is still a stream of text flowing from my fingers onto this increasingly rustic metal box. It is interesting how I switch from thread to thread within the set of all my endeavours, contemplating various subjects, but always with respect to some constant whose existance binds the otherwise unrelated bits together. I feel like my life increasingly happens in different compartments, on different threads, and that identifying, managing, and finding harmony for all these threads and processes is my goal

"ok I need to turn this thing off for a second" [click -drag through menu -select = :busy icon]

( outward appearance is now a red-tinted, mostly unresponsive window with text indicating "I am busy, please don't talk to me just now. If it's urgent, press here . If you want to drop off a note, enter ."

unless the urgent button is pressed, local host display does not change from the busy icon static image.

when mode change back to "generally available" is executed, through icon picker, the local host display shows a green-tinted "ready for communication" window if no one is actively attempting contatct - i.e. waiting in a window that is red, in hopes of you becoming available.

when in this red window on a remote host, you have confirmed contact with the local host client side instance of the application, which will not display any notice to the local user unless the urgent button is pressed, but has also informed it may take offline messages for display to the local host client user upon status change away from "busy" (potentially at time of user's preference).

suppose a remote user is entering offline messages when the busy target user switches status away from "busy". This ideally causes the local host client application to signal the remote offline-message-entering user that any messages sent 'from now on until further notice" will be displayed live.

this could potentially lead to some embarassment if a message was intended to be offline and a busy target switched off busy just before the remote offfline-message-entering user invoked the "send" action.

{ step 5 - installation failure

o sorry, your response

"go fuck yourself"

o is not lexicographically equivalent to

"I, the owner and operator of the computer currently executing this instance of the XYZ application (appid:1234567890) do affirm that I indemnify the creator of said application from any and all damages whatever related to my decision to press the button"

step 3 - legal disclaimer

o please provide a lexicographically equivalent statement, in your own words, to match the following statement:
"I, the owner and operator of the computer currently executing this instance of the XYZ application (appid:1234567890) do affirm that I indemnify the creator of said application from any and all damages whatever related to my decision to press the button"

0 option: I insist "go fuck yourself" is the lexicographic equivalent. I submit that your automatic comparison process has failed*

( * in which case pressing the insist button brings you face to face with someone at the company who is on call to deal with such failures in the automatic processes.)

"still too fresh"

"this bond is still too fresh to break. [progress indicator] .. player waits.. player waits, getting impatient. opponent is scribbling all over my stuff.. grrr.. [progress indicator process invokes sound generator] oh.. it's coming soon... bleep .. bleep lightly, binging, chiming at the start of every cycle, getting closer together, but, simultaneously the frequency lowers. The whole area starts to flash, a white shield starting transparent and shading to opaque, then holding and bonging as the cycle repeats. The sound gets louder and more continuous, as the low pitch and high cycle rate combine to create a single wave, which pulsates in time with the opacity of the shield indicator.

Finally, the shield indicator cycle lengthens such that the last shield cycle is exponentially longer than the first (when progress changed to new sound enhanced mode) and so the waiting player hears a long increasingly loud gonging sound that corresponds to the shield's dying effort to stay shieldy, in hopes its originator will refresh it before it expires.

shield expires, and waiting player is granted option of scribbling.

:D

============================
my software development application ideals:

1-every program you can create runs without crashing.

2-you only specify the success case, all failures are handled automatically by the system. error handlers, of course, can be replaced with custom ones.

3-every programming action can be performed with mouse equivalent actions, i.e. x axis input, y axis input, and preferrably 3 buttons.

4-I'll never design anything for a mouse wheel, because that is my preference, but any other user of the system would be able to easily add support for their mouse wheel, and any other mouse wheel user would automatically have access to that new functionality, through the system. (it would have been designed in the system, after all)

5-new functionality like that defined in 5 would appear in an appealing way to the average system user. I envision this being some sort of iconic region that is equivalent perhaps to the launch icon used to initiate program instantiation. Within, some subtle activity indicator (read: do not allow vendors access to user pixels - instead, allow access to an ad pane and then give user final control over display of ad pane - including transparency - with final user authority, read: no vendor limitations on user.

6-so to continue in the vein of 5, a new user with a scroll wheel might have visited the system forum in response to frustration and/or dismay that their scroll wheel was not supported by this "supposedly great" software system. At least the preceding scenario is only one case in a set of possible ways that an interested user could be notified. I envision the following:
o 30 non-anonymous forum posters lodged some complaint that the operating system had no support for a mouse wheel. 30,000 people who registered had a mouse wheel according to the installation detection routine.
o When the person who wrote the mouse wheel support module invoked the "release" action, the system queued actions for the client instances that are registered as installed for the interested parties, as identified by their system id which would be in the post since they were from non-anonymous posters.
o when the non-anonymous posters next receive the system message, they are granted the option of installing said software, as specified in part by the module creator, and governed by system rules.
o as part of software installation process, success of various phases for the target platform is tracked and reported.
o also, user satisfaction with the installation process is tracked and reported, possibly as "no response"
o given that of the 30 non-anonymous posters, 80% completed the installation and (registered a satisfied response) or ("no response" and no uninstall for 3 days), offer the module as a possible upgrade to those of the 30,000 users with mouse wheels whose system data on file does not counter-indicate installation.
o potentially give first to a group who has declared particular willingness to act as technical testers on behalf of the general public. (this type of account profile could be granted more functionality in the system in response to the expected return on investment.

o oooooh I'm more interested in the ratio. It's all relative. There are no absolutes in a society of system users(forum-goers). You can track those who are nice and helpful and whose presence is wanted and cherished as a provider for the whole society of individuals. You may positively identify people who breed ignorance, hatred, assumption, blame, intolerance, or other negative traits that generally cause a lack of harmony and positive growth in the society.
o For any given individual you can define their relative input to the society, even categorize as positive, neutral and negative, depending which sphere the individual inhabits. there are phase transitions that help define the groups, which can be mathematically identified.

I don't shrink from the truth.
I walk boldly toward it,
wherever it is that I see it now,
based on all I've known, to help me know
the truth makes me strong
because it is everpresent
and connected
all things that are true support each other
and their connectedness is my reality

that's why I fight indoctrination, spin and sway
arguments that put a frown on my face
by making me come up empty
when I struggle to identify a logical structure
out of what my opponent is bent on making clear to me.

I come out of these arguments feeling worn
like my mental energies were frayed by
the unravelled mentality of the lost seeker
the seeker who has turned the outside in
and accepted the role of source for all its own needs.

of course that is just the ruse
the truth is their society supports itself
as a consequence of its rules
it not only supports itself but may grow
human minds are fertile when young
imprinting a mental seed is easy
extricating a bad seed, not so.
