no: the idea was, the window panes were shipped doubled and stuck together, and the night before they were sold, they were taken apart and put back together in two sets, each half as thick.

many people interviewed to find out actual cause, many years later, and one reminisces: yes, those are definitely the same windows. .. (pause) (starting out small and gentle) yet (sudden accel) there was something (sudden leveling out and faintening) a bit more sinister about the originals. (finishing noncommital)
